Draft Law to Increase the Maximum Value of Meal Vouchers

The draft law that provides for the increase of the maximum value of meal vouchers to 45 lei, previously adopted by the Senate, has recently received a favorable report from the Chamber of Deputies, acting as the decision-making body. In order to become effective, the draft must be adopted in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, promulgated by the President, and published in the Official Gazette.

Thus, if the draft law is adopted, the nominal value of a meal voucher will be a maximum of 45 lei, the new value applying to entitlements corresponding to November 2025 and remaining valid during the first semester of 2026, as well as during the first three months of the second semester of 2026 (July, August, and September). According to current provisions, the maximum value of a meal voucher is 40.18 lei.

However, the value of the meal voucher itself does not increase, but rather its maximum allowable value. Moreover, employers are not obliged to grant the maximum value.
